This project marked a significant milestone in my career, serving as my final examination and eventually earning me the title of „Europe’s Best Young Professional Photographer 2025“. I reached out to the Berlin-based knife manufacturer Black Chili, driven by a vision to showcase their high-end products through a lens of absolute clarity and graphic precision.

Entering the discovery phase, it became clear that traditional cutlery photography often relies on rustic, cluttered still-lifes of finished meals. I wanted to challenge this approach by stripping away the noise. My goal was to treat the knife as the „lead character,“ using a minimalist grid system to highlight the raw essence of the materials—the cold reflection of the steel blades and the organic texture of the wooden handles.

The technical challenge lay in the interplay of light and metal. By utilizing harsh shadows and a geometric arrangement, I created a visual symmetry where the sharpness of the blade is echoed in the hardness of the shadows. Every food element and accessory was thoughtfully placed to underline the knife’s functionality without distracting from its design.

The resulting series of five images—ranging from detailed macro shots to an atmospheric lifestyle still-life—defines my journey from an initial concept to a finished, award-winning product. It was the starting point for my signature style: where minimalism meets architectural precision.
